Our Name
BOMA FOODS
A sense of community and comfort food
drew us to use the name “Boma” for our company.

The word “boma” dates back to pre-colonial Africa and was, amongst other things, a community enclosure, livestock stockade, corral, or small fort. It was often constructed using natural materials such as branches, thorns, or stones, and would create a fortified barrier, thereby protecting both the inhabitants and valuable livestock from predators. The meaning of "boma" has evolved beyond its original functional use to encompass a sense of community, protection, and gathering. In South African safari lodges and camps, a "boma" refers to a fenced-in outdoor area where guests gather around a fire, dine on traditional South African foods, and interact with one another.
We hope our food evokes similar sensations for you!
